The Team
Richard Spink,32: a physiotherapist from Bristol, who has always had a passion for the outdoors. “It all started starting with being forcefed a diet of youth hostels and long, long rainy walks as a child.” He is a former partner of a successful sports injury clinic in Bristol. He recently put this aside to work full time on Project CNE, such is his belief in the cause. He is never far from the hills, training for the next bike race, climbing or lying down knackered from all the training! He and friend Raoul Surcouf conceived the idea of CNE during the Geomagnetic North Pole Expedition in 2006, following Greenland 2009 Richard remains at the helm “Despite the setbacks of the 2009 the projects to inspire young people through adventure are continuing in earnest, education days continue and the cycle summit ventures have been launched. The Greenland plan is far from dead but we won’t compromise our values by the way it’s achieved.”
Jess Tombs, 32. Jess lives in Bristol and works as an assistant producer in wildlife and adventure television. She will be in charge of logistics and communication while the team is away in Greenland. Having spent much of her early 20’s living in the wilderness in Africa, Jess has a great affinity for the outdoors and wild places causing her to suffer frequently from itchy feet. She has bags of energy to spare and likes to run, swim, cycle, scuba dive, ski and most recently roller-blade! “I am thrilled to be involved with an expedition that combines research, education and adventure in a thoughtful and responsible way. It is essential that we all start taking actions that will lead to the conservation of our planet for the future generations and wildlife who currently have no say in the matter. CNE’s expedition is inspirational and gives us all hope that we can do something to make a difference.”
Felix Ellis, 24. Felix works in educational support in Bristol. Felix and Jess headed logistics during Greenland 2009. Felix will be heading the support team for Cycle Summit 2010. His enthusiasm and sense of humor will keep everyone going! He’s no stranger to mountains or wilderness, a former ranch worker in Australia and with long term ski experience he’s a dab hand with the bike tools.
Dan West, 36. Newest member to the team is this experienced rower and cyclist, highly talented athlete and motivator. During Cycle Summit 2010 Dan will be ensuring the training weekends run smoothly and the team is physically up to scratch for the cycle leg of the journey. He will also be our Chamonix vital in the transition from bike to summit.
