Research

A crucial element of Carbon Neutral Expedition’s ethos is research. Unfortunately the proposed research for Bristol Glaciology Department has fallen through. True groundbreaking research is highly unlikely to be carried out by untrained adventurers. Any significant research is done by the scientists themselves. Furthermore, it is often the case that for this to be worth while the sample transects would need to be repeated over a period of time, hence repeat journeys.

Despite this we will be forwarding wind speed, snow depths and temperature readings to the Danish Polar Centre and an expedition report containing this data will be available on our site post expedition. We are also delighted to be working with an eminent exercise physiologist who will be studying the team on their journey across the ice cap. Regular data will be sent back to the lab. Pre and post expedition testing will also be conducted to examine the effects of sustained work load following prolonged time inactive at sea.

The team has experience of carrying out research in freezing conditions having previously collected data for Environment Canada, NASA and the University of Washington on a successful (non CNE) expedition to the Geomagnetic North Pole in 2006.
